What are the requirements to qualify for a student visa?

There are several criteria you must meet before you qualify for a student visa. In support of your student visa application, you will need to:

  • Enrol with an approved Australian Education Provider as a full-time student
  • Provide confirmation of enrolment (CoE) for all intended courses from your education provider
  • Show that you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees, travel expenses and living costs
  • Prove that you are a ‘Genuine Temporary Entrant’, which means you need to provide a statement stating that you intend to stay in Australia temporarily and documentation to support your claim
  • Have adequate health insurance covering entire duration of your stay in Australia
  • Meet English language requirements unless exempt
  • Meet Australian health and character requirements

Future Prospects

After completion of your studies, you may be eligible for a Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485) which allows eligible applicants to temporarily live and work in Australia after completion of studies in Australia. Depending on your qualification, you may be granted a visa allowing unrestricted hours of work with validity of up to 4 years.
